LOCAL FISHERMEN

THE BEGINNING

The club was started in 1936 by local fishermen who liked to race their boats.

These down-to-Earth local beginnings are still reflected today in the character of the club.

A CHANGE IN THE BREEZE

Windsurfing became increasingly popular in the 80’s onwards and the club hosted the annual “Cross Bay race weekend” which was held up to the early 90’s. This photo is one of the early events picturing the lead up to the start.

2012

A WINNING TEAM

After the county hosted the summer Olympics in 2012, sailing became increasingly popular and the club benefited from a Sport England grant to upgrade our clubhouse facilities with increased size of changing rooms, modern stainless kitchen facilities and new bar.

2015

TIME FOR A CHANGE

With a new name in the later part of 2015 and now known as “Morecambe Sailing Club” or MSC we felt the change of name to be less formal and a reflection of the clubs friendly membership.

2020

A LITTLE HELP FROM OUR FRIENDS

Again in 2020 with the assistance of sport England and National Lottery funding we took delivery of a new Ribcraft patrol / safety boat to help the club increase female participation in the sport which is something we are particularly proud of achieving one the past few seasons and still promote.
