Morecambe Sailing Club
About Us
Morecambe Sailing Club
The club was started in 1936 by local fishermen who liked to race their boats. These down-to-Earth local beginnings are still reflected today in the character of the club. Our membership is open to everyone with an appropriate interest, has always had a very local base and consists of people with a shared enthusiasm for sailing in the Bay, or an interest in other water-sports such as wind-surfing and sub-aqua diving.
Our membership now sail and race a wide variety of craft from single and double handed dinghies to catamarans and the latest foiled craft.
Our membership is open to everyone with an appropriate interest and has always had a very local base consisting of people with a shared enthusiasm for sailing in the Bay, or an interest in other water-sports.
You don’t need to own a boat or be an active sailor to join the club, novices and social members are welcome too. Families are particularly welcome, with family membership available to parents and their children.
After all youngsters are the future of this fantastic sport … you may have the next Olympic Gold Medallist in your family (the UK has consistently
won more Olympic Golds for sailing than just about any other sport.)
THE BAY
This huge area of sand and mud is crammed with juicy worms, tiny crustaceans and shellfish which the birds feed on.
Bay Depth
The deepest part of the bay has a large underwater canyon extending over 20km and reaching depths of up to 70m.
Electricity
The power supply from the pillars is more than sufficient to cover all types of yachts for rent.
Green Area
An urban oasis unlike any other where all our visitors may feel calm, relax and unwind.
